Welcome to my Amazing Grace chords and lyrics song page by Alan Jackson where you'll find my acoustic guitar demo, purchase link for a full lesson, the lyrics to the song as well as a free .pdf sheet you can download and some rhythm tips.

An English poet by the name of John Newton wrote Amazing Grace back in 1772 and published the song in 1779. The song was for a sermon to be preached on New Years Day 1773. The version most sung today comes from a melody composed in 1835 by William Walker, an American composer.

Over the time the lyrics have changed slightly and new ones added, depending on the artist and the slight twist they've decided to put into the song. If I were to list everyone who has recorded this song, it would be a long read. It was estimated that the song is sung approx 10 million times each year around the world.

Amazing Grace Lyrics

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come
'tis grace hath brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see
