In 1978 Styx release an album called "Pieces Of Eight". Tommy Shaw wrote the song based on a friend who was unemployed at the time.
Along with that was a sound that occurred from his motorboat engine that would not start. Those two pieces together helped form the song which was released as a single and peaked at #21 in the US and #9 in Canada.
