John Prine Souvenirs Chords
Demo Lyrics & Pdf

Souvenirs appears on the John Prine album from 2000 of the same name. Apparently the album was originally intended for release to German audiences only.

This one has a Drop D tuning with a capo on the 2nd fret.

The challenge here is to arpeggio the strings so it's as if you're finger-picking the melody while playing. A root up down up root up down up pattern will work if that's all you intend to do. But as you'll see, I'm throwing in upstrokes in certain places to try and duplicate some finger-picking.

The Souvenirs chords are again those simple three chords:

  • D
  • A7
  • G

John Prine Souvenirs Lyrics

All the snow has turned to water --- Christmas days have come and gone
Broken toys and faded colours --- are all that's left to linger on

I hate graveyards and old Pawn shops --- for they always bring me tears
I can't forgive the way they robbed me --- of my childhood souvenirs

Memories, they can't be boughten --- they can't be won at carnivals for free
Well it took me years - to get those souvenirs
And I don't know how they slipped away from me

Broken hearts and dirty windows --- make life difficult to see
That's why last night and this morning -- always look the same to me

And I hate reading old love letters -- for they always bring me tears
I can't forget the way they robbed me --- of my sweetheart's souvenirs

Memories, they can't be boughten --- they can't be won at carnivals for free
Well it took me years - to get those souvenirs
And I don't know how they slipped away from me

This song by John Prine is probably one of his most recognizable song and as I mentioned in the past, many great songs were written with just three chords including this one.

I hope you found the free chords sheet, free acoustic demos, my tips on strumming and the lyrics here on this John Prine Souvenirs chords page useful. Feel free to share this page with others if you concur.
