An old number here written by Issac Watts, an English minister way back in 1919. It's based on several Psalms 96, 98 and the book of Genesis. It has been called the most published Christmas hymn in North America.

2. Silent Night

You have to go all the way back to 1816 to find the origins of this classic. It was written by Father Joseph Mohr in 1816 and the music was composed by Franz Gruber in 1818. The song was performed in a small church for the first time in Mariapfarr Austria.

Bing Crosby's recorded his version from 1935 is the 4th biggest selling single of all time.

3. Silver Bells

The first recording of this song was by Bing Crosby and Carol Richards and John Trotter and his Orchestra. Kate Smith recorded a version in 1966 and was featured in films and holiday albums. The Judds also recorded a version in 1987.

4. There's No Place Like Home For The Holidays

Perry Como was the first to popularize this song back in 1954. The song peaked at #8 at the time. Lots of covers have since appeared since that original recording including The Caroenters, Garth Brooks Cyndi Lauper/Norah Jones and others.
