Adele Songs - Learn To Play On Guitar
Love Song from
Adele was included on her debut studio album "19" released in 2008. It
was co-written by Adele and producer Dan Wilson, who is best known as
the lead vocalist of the band Semisonic.
The
song has been covered by several other artists over the years,
including American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, who released her
own version of "Love Song" in 2007, a year before Adele's release.
Bareilles' cover became a hit in its own right, and reached the top 5 on
the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Chords And Strumming
This
one is played with a combo arpeggio pattern plus rhythm by playing a
1-2-3 up down up down up and repeat in standard tuning. The the original
key is with capo 3rd and uses the chords Am, Am/G, Fmaj7, E7 and a Dm
with some lead required.
Set Fire to the Rain is
a song by Adele, which was released as a single from her album "21" in
2011. The song was written by Adele, along with Fraser T Smith, who also
produced the track. This version here is from Noah Guthrie but I
decided to include it on this page as the version is similar to Adele's
version.
The
song was a commercial success, reaching number 1 in several countries,
including the United States and the United Kingdom.
Noah
Guthrie, an American singer and songwriter, recorded a cover of "Set
Fire to the Rain" in 2012. Guthrie's version features a stripped-down
acoustic arrangement and his own soulful vocals, giving the song a
different feel from Adele's original.
Chords And Strumming
This
one played in standard tuning and a capo 1st fret has a down (down up
down - muted ) up down up down pattern throughout with a few down
strokes. No lead with the chords Am, C, G and F.
Someone Like You is
a song by Adele, which was released as a single from her album "21" in
2011. The song was written by Adele and Dan Wilson, and produced by Rick
Rubin.
"Someone
Like You" was a critical and commercial success, reaching number 1 in
several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
It received widespread acclaim for its emotional depth and Adele's
powerful vocals.
Chords And Strumming
A
capo 2nd fret will get you up to the original key here in standard
tuning. You can play two different patterns here. The first is a 1-2- up
don down up down up combining some arpeggio with rhythm or as you'll
see near the end I just play a root down up root up down up and no lead
required. For chords you'll need a G, Bm, Em, C, D and an Am.
That's It, I Quit, I'm Moving On was included as a bonus track on the expanded edition of "19" and was not available on the original release.
The
song is a classic soul song originally recorded by Sam Cooke in 1961.
The song was written by Cooke himself and features his signature smooth
and soulful vocals. The track was released as a single and became a hit,
reaching number 18 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 2 on
the US R&B chart.
In
addition to being a hit in its own right, "That's It, I Quit, I'm
Moving On" has also been sampled in numerous other songs, including
Kanye West's "Gone" and Talib Kweli's "Good to You."
Chords And Strumming
No lead here in standard tuning with the three chords A, D9 and E9. Play a steady down up down up rhythm pattern.
Faith hails
from George Michaels debut album and was not originally going to be
released as a single mainly because the original recording had no guitar
solo and was too short.
So once George Michael realized the song would likely do well as a single, a guitar solo was added to the track.
The song reached #1 in the US, Canada, Australia and #2 in the UK.
I
use a capo 2nd fret in standard tuning on this one and I play a chop
rhythm using a shuffle as you'll see in the demo. A bit of lead blended
into the rhythm here as you play the chords A, D, Gbm, Bm and an E.
I Want Your Sex is
also from the debut "Faith" album and was part of the Beverly Hills Cop
II movie and peaked at #2 in the US and UK but did hit #1 in Ireland
and The Netherlands.
There were three versions of this song recorded.
I
use a capo 3rd fret here with a a steady up and down rhythm pattern
using a bit of chop and with a bit of bass walking that can also be
added. Played in standard tuning, there is some lead here with the
chords G, F, C and D7.
Last Christmas was
written by George Michael and he recorded it with WHAM in 1984 but it
was held out of the #1 spot in the UK for a record 35 years.
It peaked at #2 in the UK and in 2021, it reached #1 in the UK. The song was a #1 in a few countries and a top 10 in others.
The song hails from the album "Music From The Edge Of Heaven".
The
chords you''ll need here are D, Bm, Em, A7sus. A7 and an A. I play this
one in standard tuning and do some picking in the rhythm. You can use
down strokes for the rhythm pattern or use a bit of shuffle in places.
Wake Me Up Before You Go Go peaked at #1 in both the US and the UK and hails from their 1984 album "Make It Big".
The song was also a #1 and top 10 in several other countries.
I
play this one in standard tuning with some lead work while playing a a
down up stop up down up stop up rhythm pattern. The chords here are C,
Dm7, Em, F, Gsus and G.
Mambo #5 was
released in 1999 from German singer Lou Bega’s from his debut album A Little Bit of Mambo.
The
single became a global smash, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100
and No. 1 in over ten countries. Its vibrant, retro-Latin music video
received heavy MTV rotation.
The song is based on a 1949 instrumental by Pérez Prado, with Bega adding lyrics and a pop arrangement.
Bega’s version reignited worldwide interest in mambo music and earned him multiple international awards.
Chords And Strumming
I play a capo first on this one and in
drop D tuning with the chords Em, D, A, and A7. Just one riff as you
play a down down up down up down up and repeat rhythm pattern.
Joanne is one of Michael Nesmith's most enduring solo compositions, originally released in 1970 on his debut solo album, Magnetic South, after his departure from The Monkees. Blending country, folk, and soft rock influences, the song showcases Nesmith's warm vocals, understated acoustic arrangement, and thoughtful songwriting. Its gentle melody and heartfelt lyrics tell the story of a man reflecting on lost love with honesty and quiet regret rather than bitterness.
Although never a major chart hit in North America, Joanne became especially popular in the United Kingdom, where it reached the Top 10. Today, it remains one of Nesmith's signature recordings and a respected example of his pioneering contribution to the country-rock genre.
Chords And Strumming
I play this one with a capo 3rd fret, but the original key is without the capo and sung on the high end of C. So in my version I'm singing on the low end and because it's too low, I'm capoed up three frets while playing a root down up down up down up and repeat rhythm pattern. No picking here with the chords C, F, G, C, G6, Dm, Fm and an Am.

She Bangs was a

banned in several countries for being a bit too racy. William Hung, a
contestant on the 2004 American Idol, did a not so favourable cover
version for the show.
She's All I Ever Had
is also from the 1999 debut album from Ricky Martin. Keep in mind Ricky
Martin had released 8 studio albums prior to 1999 going back to 1991,
