Keith Urban Guitar Lessons For The Acoustic Guitar

Welcome to my Keith Urban guitar lessons page where my goal is to teach you how I play these Keith Urban popular songs on the acoustic.

Below are some free info on rhythm patterns I use and free chord sheets you can download in pdf format for specific songs.

Some of these Keith Urban greatest hits are not simple to learn because I add in background instruments in places to give the songs that fuller Keith Urban acoustic guitar sound.

My advice is to take your time and always learn rhythm first ,then go back and add in additional riffs. You'll also see the Keith Urban album covers next t each lesson so you know where the songs originated.

1. Blue Ain't Your Color

This song hails from the 2016 albums entitled "Ripcord" and was not written by Keith but by three co-writers. When you have a hit that stays at #1 on the country charts for 12 weeks, you know you have something because that's what this song accomplished. It also crossed over onto the Billboard Hot 100 reaching #24 on that chart.

The song was also nominated for a Grammy, and won two country music awards in 2017. Keith has a dry spell since 2013 trying to break into the top 30 but this song made up for it all. A music video was created to promote the song.

  • Drop D Tuning = No
  • Capo = No
  • Rhythm = a consistent rhythm pattern it would be a down down down up down up down but I'm letting the first downstroke count ring, instead of playing follow up downstrokes. So when you play this song, you could do a down -ring-ring- up down up down by ring ring I simply mean don't strum, just let the chord ring out for that time
  • Picking = Yes .. if you wish to add one.
  • Chords = G, Am, C, D, G6, E

2. Keith Urban For You

Keith Urban co-wrote this song after a viewing of the film Act Of Valor which was released in 2012. Somehow the song got attached to the closing credits at a later date. I'm not sure how that works after a movie is released unless is was a premiere showing before full release to the public. All proceeds were donated to the Navy SEALs.

The song was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award. The song reached #6 on the country charts. The music video was shot in the Mojave Desert where the film was also filmed.

  • Drop D Tuning = No
  • Capo = No
  • Rhythm = a steady up and down rhythm going on for the most part and where the song cuts to the A and Em portion, you get to chop it up for a few bars
  • Picking = Yes
  • Chords = Bm, G, D, A, Gbm, Bm/A and an Em
